Ingredients
Ingredients
1/3 cup Blackeyed Peas
1/3 cup Red Kidney Beans
1/3 cup Yellow Split Peas
1/3 cup Black Beans
1/3 cup Pearl Barley
1/3 cup Anasazi Beans
1/3 cup Great Northern Beans
1/3 cup Green Split Peas
1/3 cup Pinto Beans
Instructions
Directions for filling jars
1.To make the 9-bean jars, put in ingredients in order, into each 26 oz. Mason jar (fill to top)
We recycled some jars that used to hold Five Brothers pasta sauces.

2. Add each type of dried food carefully, so that you will be making colored layers in the jar.
If you can''''t find exactly the same types of beans listed, just substitute another type of dried
    bean or pea.

Directions to attach to jar

1 jar of 9-bean mix
1 (16 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
1 large onion, chopped
2 carrots, chopped
2 ribs celery, including tops, chopped
1 ham hock (optional), or 1 hambone with meat attached, or 1 cup ham, chopped
1 Tablespoon seasoned salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 Tablespoon chili powder
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped (or 1 Tablespoon dried basil)
1 teaspoon cumin
1 bay leaf

Sort and wash the beans. Cover with water two inches above the beans and soak overnight. In the morning, drain them and place in crockpot. Add tomatoes, onion, carrots, celery, ham hock, salt, pepper, and other seasonings to taste. Add water to within 1/2 inch from the top. Cover crockpot and cook on high for 8 hours. Remove ham hock or bone from soup. Remove the meat from the bone, chop meat, and return meat to soup.

Serve with freshly grated Parmesan cheese on top and a hearty bread.

Note: You can also make this soup on the stove top. Simmer all day and stir often.
