Ingredients
1 Tbs. Dry Yeast
1 Tbs. Honey
1 1/2 cups Warm Water (115?)
1 scant Tbs. Salt
4-4 1/2 cups of Flour
Softened Butter
1 Egg White, beaten
2 Tbs. Water
Toppings (garlic salt, coarse salt, Parmesan cheese, poppy seeds, salad supreme, sesame seed, etc.) - optional
Instructions
1. Let the dry yeast, honey, and warm water soften in a large bowl until you can see yeast activating.
2. Stir in the salt. If you are going to use a salty topping on the bread sticks, use considerable less salt.
3. Stir in the flour gradually, blending well until dough pulls away from sides of bowl to form a ball. (This dough works well using a wooden spoon or a mixer, if you have a dough hook.)
4. Roll the dough on a floured surface into a 12” x 6" rectangle.
5. Cut into 12 equal sticks.
6. Place lengthwise on a large well-buttered baking sheet.
7. Mix beaten egg whites and water.
8. Butter tops of bread sticks and brush with egg white and water mixture.
9. Sprinkle with desired seasoning.
10. Let rise for 15 to 20 minutes, if you desire a lighter texture bread. If not, bake at 400 deg for minutes or until browned to your taste.
