Ingredients
1 cup milk, scalded
1 pkg. dry yeast
1/4 cup lukewarm water
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 cups sifted flour
3 Tbsp. butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
3 cups flour
Instructions
1. Scald milk.  Let cool to lukewarm.

2. Sprinkle yeast into lukewarm water.  Let stand 5 to 10 minutes, until dissolved.  Stir.

3. Stir yeast water into milk along with 1 tablespoon sugar.

4. Add 1 1/2 cups flour.  Beat well with hand or electric beater.

5. Cover with clean towel let rise in warm place (80 deg to 85 deg) about 1 hour.

6. Work butter with spoon until creamy.

7. Add 3/4 cup sugar gradually, while beating with spoon until light.

8. Add egg, nutmeg and salt.

9. Stir in yeast mixture.

10. Add 3 cups flour.

11. Place in well-greased bowl.  Brush dough with melted butter, cover with clean towel. Let rise.

12. Roll to  1/2 inch thick.  Cut with doughnut cutter.

13. Fry in 1 1/2 inch oil heated to 370 deg or until a cube of day-old bread browns in 60 seconds.
