  Serves: makes 12 squares
Ingredients
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 large eggs
3/4 cup granulated sugar
6 Tbsp. unsweetened applesauce
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 Tbsp. chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350 deg. Spray an 8 inch square baking pan with vegetable cooking spray and set aside.

2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, cocoa and salt. Mix well.

3. In a large bowl, whisk together egg whites, egg, sugar, applesauce, oil, and vanilla. Stir in flour mixture until just blended do not overmix. Pour batter into prepared pan sprinkle with walnuts.

4. Bake until just set and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 25 minutes.

5. Place pan on a wire rack and cool for at least 15 minutes. Cut brownies into squares and place on a serving plate.
