  Applesauce Cake

Ingredients
1 cup seedless raisins (optional)
1 cup walnuts (optional)
2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. powdered cloves
1 cup sweetened applesauce
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg, well-beaten
Instructions
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.

2. Chop raisins and walnuts and set aside.

3. Sift flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon and powdered cloves together into a small bowl and set aside.

4. Heat applesauce to boiling.

5. Meanwhile, cream butter. Gradually blend sugar into butter.

6. Add egg and beat well.

7. Add flour mixture and heated applesauce alternately, beginning and ending with flour. Beat well after each addition.

8. Mix in raisins and walnuts.

9. Turn into loaf pan.

10. Bake for one hour and 15 minutes (75 minutes), or until done.

11. Cool on wire cake rack for 10 to 15 minutes before removing from pan.

NOTE: Serve as is or with a sauce--lemon, vanilla, etc.
